Martha started practicing yoga in 1991; she credits her parents for her immediate love of yoga by fostering in her from a young age a strong deep faith. She explored a variety of styles of hatha yoga with a wide range of teachers for six years.

While visiting her parents in Tequesta, Florida she tried her first Bikram yoga class with Steve Hendricks in 1997 and almost immediately thought of attending teacher training. Everything she felt was lacking in her other explorations of yoga she found in that Bikram class and was compelled to learn about Bikram himself. She practiced for three years with Bikram’s cassette tape as her guide and noticed immediate improvements in her health. Martha attended teacher training in 2000 and traveled to India with Bikram in the summer of 2001.

She opened her studio in Minnesota in the Fall of 2001 motivated by a desire to practice with other people and to foster a community of Bikram enthusiasts. She considers it her mission “to teach Bikram according to Bikram’s lineage, to promote a sense of community the way Rajashree intends, and to provide individual attention to each student.”

Martha and Eric enjoy being members of St. Luke Church in Minnetonka, MN. Ethical discipline, generosity and walking humbly with Jesus Christ are principles that infuse and enrich their family life and their kind approach to running this studio, where all are welcome.

Other outlets for her creative expression include timberframing, gardening, cooking, and playing in general. The best advice anyone has ever given her about yoga is “trust the process and just keep practicing, never stop.”
