KAREN KINNARD 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015
Karen Kinnard, E-RYT began practicing yoga in 1986 without a yoga mat or a yoga teacher. Inspired by a Richard Hittleman book, she checked out BKS Iyengar's "Light On Yoga" from the library and just started learning it from the book. Since those early days of daily home practice, she has been hooked ever since on the benefits: wellness, flexibility, grace & strength from practicing yoga.
Karen moved on to obtaining formal training and certification, then began teaching yoga in 2001, She began training yoga teachers in 2006-2014 in her own program licensed with the state of MN. She loves teaching beginners and yoga teachers and especially enjoys Ashtanga yoga and gentler forms as well. Two teachers who have influenced her practice and teaching style are David Swenson and Larry Schultz - both Ashtanga style teachers who have something that is quite rare: a sense of humor. She also recently trained with Govinda, another caring Ashtanga yoga master/teacher and Michelle Lynn of Yoga House in Edina. Karen is also trained as a Laughter Yoga leader!
Her deeper calling is the Surat Shabd yoga - a spiritual meditation path she has been following since 2002. All of her practices have supported her in her journey through life where she teaches, spends time with her family and traveling. Karen lives with her husband, Angus and two cats and is a grandmother of two.
